Different Types of Viruses

Type of Virus

Virus is a small piece of program that is written with the intention of causing disruption and/or serious damage without the knowledge or permission of the computer user.
It can destroy operating systems and other programs by corrupting their data. Viruses can be passed from one computer to another through files on floppy disk.

Worm is a self –copying computer virus.
It usually performs malicious actions, such as using up the computer’s resources and possibly shutting the system down.

                                                       Trojan Horses
A destructive program that impersonate as a kind application.
One of the most dangerous types of Trojan horse is a program that claims to rid your computer of viruses but instead introduces viruses onto your computer.

Electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings. It’s unwanted e-mail.
Spam is generally e-mail advertising for some product sent to a mailing list or newsgroup.

Google - Chrome

For the launch of the Google Chromebook, the Buck agency were asked by Google and BBH to put together this fun, introductory animation.

It ended up closing the show at the 2011 Google I/O conference and actually provoked some LOLs from the Android developer community.

However, it just goes to show how far Google are willing to go to make the cloud a reality.

Be Part of a Honda Channel 4 MiniDoc

Have you seen the Honda sponsored documentaries on Channel 4 recently?  To give the ident a new twist there have been minidocumentaries between the ad breaks focusing on the different ways people use their Hondas. Some of them are not quite what you would expect and now, it could be your chance to show what you do. Do you drive your Honda in a way which is a little bit different (or a lot!)?

When you do something day in and day out you become used to it but to the rest of the world it might seem extremely unusual.  Take the example of Philippa, pictured above on her Honda ATV.  What appears to be a slightly eccentric English lady charioteering across the fields is just that - with a twist!  Philippa is actually an alpaca farmer and she uses it to ferry food to her animals.  That may seem a little strange in the middle of the English countryside, so take a look at the video below!

W+K are leading this Honda campaign are looking for the new Philippa - and that could be you! They have set up an online hub so stories can be shared and enjoyed by the whole world.  The stories there might make you scratch your head a little - such as Nigel who uses his Honda Transalp to stay ahead of racing cyclists. He isn't a stalking fan but an escort rider for British cycling. Then there is Adrian who uses his Honda generator to help him find out which of his sheep are pregnant.  Could you do better than that?  If you think you can you should head over to the hub and put your own story across!  No story is too unusual so if you have to take a deep breath before you share, just do it!  Honda would love to hear about how you use yours! It could well be you supporting Channel 4 documentaries with your unusual way of using your Honda.  Why not give it a go?  Before very long you could be on the TV!

Advantages & Disadvantages of Database

Advantages & Disadvantages
• Reduced data redundancy is when you don’t have to enter a data twice that way u can have plenty of space in your database system and the advantage is that redundancy can be useful in computer data storage.
• Disadvantage of having database system is that cost can be expensive because you would have to train staff to learn how to use the database system and it will also be expensive to set up.

Child of Eden - Mind Blowing New Release from Ubisoft

It is easy to say things about games, like this is one of the most anticipated releases of the year but when it comes to Child of Eden from Ubisoft that is something of an understatement. If you are looking for a game that really engages the senses then this is probably just what you are looking for. Plus, it has a pedigree which is second to none. So, what makes this action game different? Your job is to save the world of Eden (more about that later) but what makes this game remarkable is the way players shoot at an assortment of targets which generate harmonious and melodious sounds upon their annihilation. The physics behind this game is, to put it simply, awesome.

The game is all about spectacle, synchronicity, rockets and rhythm.  Plus you get weird and wonderful music from the Japanese band Genki Rockets.  It is made for  the Xbox Kinnect which gives you extra dimensionality to say the least – you can lose yourself in this game – you can enter its matrix and combine and amalgamate with the superb game play. Take a look at this video if you are unconvinced!

The game is the brainchild of Tetsuya Mizuguchi. This noted games designer and founder of Q Entertainment has been responsible for a lot of games you have probably played, including Sega Rally Championship, Space Channel 5 and Rez. Rez was a rail shooter video game released back in 2001 and Child of Eden is a natural evolution from that point.

So what happens in Child of Eden? Your job is to save Project Lumi which is under threat from a virus attack. When it is complete, the project will produce a human personality within Eden – which is an artificial intelligence and where Mizuguchi ‘s previous game, Rez, took place. The future is in your hands is one of the game’s tag lines and there is nothing closer to the truth than that. Child of Eden takes gaming to a whole new level – it is the future today! Having played Rez way back when this is the sequel that I have been awaiting for a decade. Gamers! What do you think – let us know!

Advantages of Using I.C.T

Most businesses have now moved from manual methods to the use of ICT for processing data. This has reformed the way people communicate with each other and how businesses are run.

Why is I.C.T useful?

Processing of data is much faster on a computer.

: Calculating a budget on a spreadsheet is instant, doing the calculations by hand would take some time.

Repetitive processing can be better done using computerised machinery.

Example: People get tired, lose concentration and generally fed up if they have to repeat the same task over and over again.  Computers will perform the same task repeatedly with consistent quality and never need a break.

Searching for data is much faster.

Example : Finding a patient's record in a doctor's surgery can be done in seconds on a computerised database system, whereas it would take a receptionist some minutes to locate a folder in a paper filing system.

Data storage capacity is almost limitless in a computer system.

Example: Large quantities of data can be stored on hard discs or media such as CDs or DVDs instead of needing enormous quantities of paper.

An Introduction to Indie Gaming

‘Indie’ or Independent games are created by small teams or individuals. This is done without financial support from major video game publishers. Most indie games rely on digital distribution, although in most cases they are released for free.

Indie gaming has risen in popularity in the last few years, due to the introduction of online distribution. Indie gaming is also no longer limited to PC as there are download services for most popular video games consoles nowadays. By definition most browser based flash games are indie.

Examples of successful, popular Indie games include Minecraft, Cave Story and Super Meat Boy. Minecraft has proven so popular that it has currently sold over 1 million copies and has only just recently reached the beta stage.

Most indie games releases at retail are not very successful, but some companies prove this wrong. Level-5 has brought us the ever popular Professor Layton series, Of 4 games, which has sold over 11.5 Million copies as of February 2011.

It offers over features such as email spam and phishing protection. This software would have to be downloaded off your computer and straight to your desktop.

Microsoft Office 2010

Microsoft Office 2010 is the successor to Microsoft Office 2007; Office 2010 includes extended file format support, user interface updates, and a changed user experience. A 64-bit version of Office 2010 is available, although not for Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.

On April 15, 2010, Office 2010 was released to manufacturing. The suite became available for retail and online purchase on June 15, 2010. Office 2010 is the first version to require product activation for volume license editions.

Office 2010 marks the debut of free online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, which work in the web browsers Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari.

New features and improvements

Office 2010 is more "role-based" than previous versions. There are features tailored to employees in "roles such as research and development professionals, sales people, and human resources." In its Internet implementation, Office 2010 incorporates features of SharePoint Server and borrows from "Web 2.0" ideas.

New features also include a built-in screen capture tool, a background removal tool, a protected document mode, new SmartArt templates and author permissions. The 2007 "Office Button" was replaced with a menu button that leads to a full-window file menu, known as Backstage View, giving easy access to task-centered functions such as printing and sharing.

A notable accessibility regression from 2007 is that the menu button scores worse with the Fitts's law accessibility calculation than previous versions. A modified Ribbon interface is present in all Office applications, including Office Outlook, Visio, OneNote, Project, and Publisher. Office applications also have functional jump lists in Windows 7, which would allow easy access to recent items and tasks relevant to the application. Features of Office 2010 include:

• Ribbon interface and Backstage View across all applications
• Background Removal Tool
• Letter Styling
• The Word 2007 Equation editor is common to all applications, replacing Microsoft Equation Editor 3.0
• New SmartArt templates
• New text and image editing effects
• Screen Capturing and Clipping tools
• Live collaboration functions
• Jump lists in Windows 7
• New animations in PowerPoint 2010

A new feature in Microsoft Office 2010 is Outlook Social Connector, which allows users connect to and receive updates from their social network inside Microsoft Outlook. When users view their emails a name, picture, and title is available for the person they are contacting. Upcoming appointments can also be viewed with this new feature and users can request friends. Outlook Social Connector currently supports Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace and Windows Live Messenger.

Foot Locker Global Sneaker Movement

Are you a secret sneaker addict? Well, you do not have to keep your secret any longer because thanks to Footlocker a global Sneaker Movement is gaining momentum and it may be the time for you to step forward and show the world the nature of your addiction!

Take Adam, for example. You can see his video below. Unwittingly perhaps, but this contemporary hero has become pivotal in the sneakerhead movement with an act of rebellion in the workplace. Perhaps it was semantics which kicked it all off but being told by his boss that his sneakers were not smart enough for the workplace was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Adam has become an instant celebrity and his revolution was caught on camera, uploaded to YouTube and has had thousands of hits. He even has a Facebook page which is dedicated to his act of rebellion!

So that was how it all began. Foot Locker could sense the which way the wind was blowing so in a really forward thinking move they set up It's a Sneaker Thing – a very cool new website featuring the best of the best sneaker stories from recent weeks. It is full on Web 2.0 with videos, images, blog posts and a host of stars sharing their sneaker secrets. Tiny Tempah is featured as well as Maya Moore, Eliza Dolittle and Will Smith.

Nico Roux is also featured but you might get a better idea of his work over at his Flickr page. This urban artist has a thing about laces – a big thing! The streets of Paris will never be quite the same again after he has finished adorning them with his giant outsize laces! The Footlocker Europe Facebook group is one way that you can get involved with the movement, find out more about it and decide how you are going to contribute yourself. Although with Adam and Nico’s actions already becoming globally infamous it is quite difficult to think of just what I could do, I am going to be taking some time out to deliberate and see how I can make my mark in the global sneaker movement!

Central Processing Unit (CPU)

Central Processing Unit

The CPU is the 'brain` of the computer.
It is where all the sarching, sorting, calculating and decision making takes place.

The CPU contains a tiny quartz clock. Each time this clock 'ticks`, one instruction can be dealt with by the CPU. So the more times this clock ticks per second, the more instruction the CPU can carry out and the faster things get done.

The speed of the CPU is measured in either Megahertz (MHz) or more commonly now in Gigahertz (GHz).
A1 MHz CPU can carry out one million instructions per second. A1 GHz CPU can carry out 1 billion instructions per second.
Atypical CPU installed in a computer today would run at around 3 GHz.
